Really nice work which portrays the life of Emperor Rajendra Chola. In the last page, the author Akilan will be thinking of the olden times of how our ancestors lived, how good their way of life was, how much proud they were having in themselves as a Tamil, how much they patronized art and literature, how many magnificient temples they built, how cruel they were to their enemies, how strong they were in wars and so and so. It's the same for every artistic readers - no wonder it got Sahitya Academy award. I am not sure if my expectations are too high when I read Tamil historical fiction books since my tryst with this genre started with Kalki's classics. Having said that, I bought this book to know more about the expeditions / conquest of Rajendra Chola I since he was overshadowed by his father's greatness in history irrespective of his far greater achievements.
